OPAL

Opal is formed when the seasonal rains drench into dry ground in regions such as Australia. Opal exhibits unique display of rainbow colors called play of color. Opal with play of colors is more expensive than the ones in which it is absent. Opal is the birthstone of October.

White Opal

These opals are either translucent or opaque with play of color against a gray or white background.

Moh Hardness- 5 to 6.5
Origin- Ethiopia and Australia.

Black Opal

These are again either translucent or opaque with play of color on black background.

Moh Hardness- 5 to 6.5
Origin- Ethiopia and Australia.

Fire Opal

These opals are either transparent or translucent with yellowish orange, brown or red bodycolor. The fire opal with no play of color is often referred as Mexican Fire Opal.

Origin- Mexico.

Boulder Opal

These opals are translucent to opaque with play of color against a light to dark background.

Moh Hardness- 5 to 6.5
Origin- Australia.

Crystal Opal

These are the ones which are transparent to semitransparent with a very clear background. They have exceptional play of color.

Origin- Ethiopia and Australia.
