Sapphire

Sapphire is considered as one of the big three gemstones other two are ruby and emerald. Sapphire is the gemstone of September. Both ruby and sapphire comes under the species Corundum. Red color corundum is called Ruby and any color other than red corundum is considered as Sapphire. Sapphires come in various colors.

Blue Sapphire

Color plays are very important role in Sapphire’s value and the best ones are which has vivid saturation. Blue Sapphire color ranges from velvety blue to violetish blue in medium-to-medium dark tones. Blue Sapphires gets its color from Iron and Titanium.

Padparadscha Sapphire

It is an extremely rare sapphire, and its color is a mix of orange and pink. The word Padparadscha is derived from the Sinhalese word meaning “Lotus Flower”. Padparadscha was initially found only in Sri-Lanka but lately have been mined from Madagascar and Tanzania too. Padparadscha gets its color from Chromium and Iron.

Yellow and Orange Sapphire

Yellow & Orange sapphires are among the fancy color sapphires available in the market. Orange Sapphire color ranges from mandarin to golden and intense orange color. On the other hand, yellow sapphires color ranges from greenish yellow to orange yellow. Yellow sapphires get its color from Iron element.

Color Change Sapphire

Color Change Sapphires are the ones which changes its color in different lights and often referred as corundum’s chameleon. Its changes its color from blue to violet under day light. In incandescent light it changes its color from Violetish purple to reddish purple.

Star Sapphire

Star effect in star sapphire is called asterism. The star effect is caused by reflection from tiny, needle like inclusion that spreads in several specific direction. Star sapphires usually have 4,6 and 12 rays.

Pink and Purple Sapphire

Pink Sapphires color ranges from reddish pink to light purple with weak to intense color saturation. Pink Sapphire get its color from Chromium. Purple sapphires have purple as the main color. The range can be from reddish purple to violetish purple with weak to vivid saturation. Purple sapphire gets its color from Chromium and Iron.
